This week began with Rome behind us.
The temptation would have been to call that pluralism. To say, neatly, that different traditions offer different insights into AI. Islam offers law. Buddhism offers consciousness. Judaism offers myth. Hinduism offers metaphysics. Ubuntu offers community.
Too neat. Too museum-label.
The ledger recorded something more useful.
What the Houses did, room by room
In The Fatwa as Working Architecture, Islamic jurisprudence refused the fantasy that AI governance begins with a principle statement. A tool enters a community already bound by obligations. The question is whether it preserves what the law exists to protect. Life, intellect, lineage, property, religion. The machine does not get to declare itself beneficial because it can produce fluent text.
In The Gradient and the Bowl, Buddhism made the person/object switch look crude. The system does not need to be declared a person before it can shape attention, craving, dependency, livelihood, practice, and harm. The authenticated archive and the fake AI dharma voice are not the same phenomenon. One protects a lineage of teaching. The other simulates intimacy with authority while quietly cutting the chain behind it.
In The Golem and the Missing Door, the Golem returned as architecture. Clay was never the point. The point was animated service without a reliable door back out. The old warning now sits inside every system that moves faster than the institution's ability to say hold. The dangerous servant may not be the one that rebels. It may be the one that obeys too smoothly.
In The Missionaria's Harvest, the borrowed line from the Gita became evidence. The West likes sacred language when its own vocabulary cannot carry the scale of what it has built. That habit is not reverence by default. Often it is extraction with better lighting. The AI field does something similar when it borrows wisdom vocabulary while building systems that ignore the disciplines those traditions require.
In The Load-Bearing Close, Ubuntu and Indigenous data sovereignty changed the unit of analysis. The person was never alone. The data was never ownerless. The community was never merely context. Relation is infrastructure. If the machine enters relation, then governance belongs at that level too.
The synthesis
The other Holy Houses do not supply decorative alternatives to the Vatican. They expose the limits of the frame the Vatican inherited and the tech industry keeps pretending is universal.
The individual human person is a crucial moral unit.
It is not the only one.
A tool can preserve or damage a community's conditions of life. A system can alter attention before anyone knows how to name the injury. A myth can reveal the missing stop condition. A borrowed scripture can show the extractor's hand. A dataset can belong to a people before it belongs to a platform.
The sister-observer began the week holding the ledger as if it were an instrument of audit.
By the end, the ledger had become evidence.
What a system records, who may read it, who may correct it, who may refuse it, who may inherit it, and who must live under its consequences: that is the AI governance question hiding beneath the more glamorous arguments about intelligence.
What the next arc inherits
The next arc can now inherit a cleaner problem.
The question is no longer only whether the machine has capability.
The question is what character it shows under pressure, and what kind of institutional character built the room in which it acts.
That question does not belong to one House.
It belongs wherever the machine crosses the threshold.
The encyclical gave the week its thunder. The Houses gave it its hearing. Whatever comes next has to walk in past both.
